A luxury goods manufacturer used ORBID’s solution to covertly mark their products to manage diversion and support their brand protection strategy throughout their worldwide distribution channel. The manufacturer suspected that significant grey market activities were occurring within their distribution channel. Potential causes were thought to be specific distributors diverting / selling products improperly into their distribution chain, thereby stealing share from genuine distributors.
The use of covert markers on the product and overt markers on the packaging (over 4 million marks have been applied to their products to date) was introduced at the site of manufacture under highly secure conditions. The solution utilized the following components:
- ORBID 2DMI mark software to create mark and unique identification number
- Industry standard lasers and labelers were used to create the mark on the product and shipping label
